• Former semiconductor executive brings more than four decades of experience spanning semiconductor research, manufacturing and ecosystem building

DRESDEN, Germany — September 28, 2026 — FMC, a Dresden-based leading semiconductor and memory chip company, announced that Joël Hartmann has joined the company as Senior Advisor. The appointment further strengthens FMC’s semiconductor expertise as the company advances the commercialization of its next-generation persistent memory technologies and continues to build the industrial capabilities required to establish a globally competitive memory champion from Europe.

Hartmann brings more than 40 years of semiconductor experience spanning research, technology development, manufacturing and executive leadership. He previously served as Executive Vice President of STMicroelectronics’ Digital & Smart Power Technology and Digital Front-End Manufacturing organizations, where he managed the company’s manufacturing operations in Crolles and Rousset, France, as well as its technology and design platforms for digital products and Smart Power Technology R&D activities. Earlier in his career, he spent more than two decades at CEA-Leti, one of Europe’s leading microelectronics research institutes, before leading the Crolles2 Alliance, a pioneering semiconductor manufacturing and research partnership between STMicroelectronics, NXP and Freescale. He later helped drive the development of advanced semiconductor process technologies through strategic collaboration with IBM and other industry partners.

A member of the French Academy of Technologies, Hartmann received the 2019 European SEMI Award for his contribution to the development and industrial adoption of Fully Depleted Silicon-on-Insulator (FD-SOI), an energy-efficient semiconductor technology widely used in advanced automotive, industrial and IoT applications. As Senior Advisor to FMC, he will support the company on technology strategy, industrialization, manufacturing partnerships and the development of a resilient European semiconductor ecosystem as FMC advances toward commercialization and future manufacturing scale-up.
