FMC adds Senior Advisors to support growth, manufacturing scale-up and global semiconductor ecosystem strategy

  • Dr. Richard L. Thurston, former General Counsel of TSMC, and Joe Rauschmayer, former EVP Worldwide Operations at Cypress Semiconductor, join FMC as Senior Advisors
  • The appointments add deep expertise in semiconductor IP, ecosystem development, manufacturing operations and global scale-up
  • Senior Advisors will support FMC as the company advances DRAM+ and CACHE+ toward commercialization and strengthens its role in Europe’s memory chip ecosystem

Dresden, 13 July 2026 – FMC, a leading semiconductor and memory chip company, today announced that Dr. Richard L. (“Dick”) Thurston and Joe Rauschmayer have joined the company as Senior Advisors. The appointments further strengthen FMC’s semiconductor expertise as the company advances the commercialization of its DRAM+ and CACHE+ memory technologies and continues to build the infrastructure, ecosystem and operational capabilities required for long-term growth.

Dr. Richard L. Thurston draws on decades of experience at the intersection of international law, intellectual property strategy, semiconductor ecosystems and technology policy. From 2001 to 2014, he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, where he built TSMC’s intellectual property and trade secret protection program, led major IP litigation worldwide, and managed compliance, M&A and joint venture activities. He later served as a consultant to TSMC founder Dr. Morris Chang and is currently Chairman and CEO of Great Lakes Semiconductor. At FMC, Dr. Thurston will advise on infrastructure, ecosystem positioning and strategic growth as the company expands its role in the international semiconductor landscape.

Joe Rauschmayer adds more than 40 years of semiconductor experience across operations, product development, manufacturing and product line management. Before retiring from Cypress Semiconductor, he served as EVP of Worldwide Operations, with responsibility for internal wafer fabs, foundries, internal and external ATMP, especially on-time product delivery. Earlier at Spansion, he was responsible for manufacturing, product development, product and test engineering, and quality. At FMC, he will advise on manufacturing scale-up, operational execution and the path toward reliable, high-volume semiconductor production.

Thomas Rueckes, CEO of FMC, stated: “I am delighted to welcome Dick and Joe as Senior Advisors to FMC. Their combined expertise in semiconductor ecosystems, intellectual property, manufacturing operations and global scale-up will be highly valuable as we advance DRAM+ and CACHE+ toward commercialization. Their decision to support FMC is another strong signal for the relevance of our technology and our ambition to help rebuild a strategic memory capability from Europe.”

Dr. Richard L. Thurston, Senior Advisor to FMC, said: “FMC combines a differentiated technology platform with a vision that goes beyond individual products. The company can become an important European innovator in next-generation memory while helping build the strategic capabilities required for a resilient semiconductor ecosystem. This combination of technological ambition and long-term stewardship positions FMC to make a meaningful contribution to Europe’s future competitiveness in semiconductors. I am excited to support the team on this journey.”

Joe Rauschmayer, Senior Advisor to FMC, added: “While DRAM has advanced generationally, its fundamental cell architecture has remained largely the same since introduction. FMC has the opportunity to change that by making memory persistent, reducing power consumption and increasing the time memory is available for active use. In the coming years, FMC can help restart a strategic supply of DRAM within Europe, supporting a more secure, locally produced semiconductor supply base.”

The appointments follow the recent strengthening of FMC’s Advisory Board with Dr. Reinhard Ploss as Chairman and Dr. Rutger Wijburg as Management Representative. Together, the Advisory Board and Senior Advisors give FMC added strategic depth across semiconductor technology, IP, manufacturing and ecosystem development as the company moves toward the next stage of commercialization.

About FMC

FMC is a leading semiconductor and memory chip company based in Dresden, founded in 2016 to develop revolutionary memory chip technology. Based on the thin-film material hafnium oxide, the company has created a new class of memory cells with its DRAM+ chip – more sustainable, faster, and cost-efficient. Thanks to its extremely low power consumption, the technology significantly reduces the energy demand of AI data centers, laying the foundation for their scale-up in Europe and worldwide. FMC is now a fabless company, meaning it designs, develops, and markets its own products while outsourcing production to contract manufacturers (chip foundries). FMC is backed by investors including HV Capital, the DeepTech & Climate Fund (DTCF), eCAPITAL, Vsquared Ventures, Bosch Ventures, Air Liquide Venture Capital, M Ventures (Merck), Verve Capital Partners and other international investors. The company is led by CEO Thomas Rückes. For more information, visit ferroelectric-memory.com
